Embracing Energy Healing: A Path to Inner Wisdom

On a hot August afternoon a few years ago, I found myself sitting quietly in the space we call the Outside Inn—an airy room in our garage where we host retreats, classes, and healing gatherings. The weekend had been filled with powerful moments from a Reiki II Training, and I was soaking in the afterglow.

There’s a particular kind of energy that lingers after these events—warm, palpable, alive. It's something we create together, and it hums with love and light. I always stay a little longer to bask in it.

But that day, something unexpected happened.

I was in a calm, open-hearted state when Mikao Usui—the founder of Reiki—appeared to me. He had a message.

If you read last week’s 🌿Message from Nature, you know I spoke about the many spiritual experiences we tend to hide, afraid others won’t understand. This was one of those. For a long time, I didn’t share it. I worried people would think I was “too out there,” or ungrounded.

And the truth is, I care deeply about staying grounded. I’m passionate about making things that seem “woo” feel natural and practical—because they are.

I believe we’re all born with the ability to heal ourselves and others… to access intuition, sense energy fields, receive wisdom, and connect across time and space. But most of us were taught to ignore these gifts. We shut them down because we’re told they aren’t real.

But what if they are?

What if sensing energy, knowing things you weren’t told, or helping someone with your hands—or your heart—isn’t strange at all, but simply second nature?

That’s what I’ve discovered. And it's what I love to teach.

There’s nothing like the look of awe on someone’s face when they realize: I can feel it. I can do this. It reminds me of the moment I first sensed an energy field—an experience that changed my life and set me on this path.

So, here’s what I want you to know:
You are more powerful than you’ve been led to believe.

And unlocking that power is often much easier than you think. Sometimes, it just takes a few simple techniques—and a willingness to let go of the old beliefs.

Mikao Usui’s message to me that day was clear and unexpected:
“I’m asking you to bring in a new form of Reiki—one based in Nature, where the hierarchy dissolves and all have equal access to healing.”

Imagine that.
Healing… that belongs to everyone.
That includes you.

So, if you’ve ever felt drawn to energy healing, if you’ve longed to help someone who was far away, or simply felt a nudge from your intuition… I’d love to share this with you.

This isn’t just something I offer—it’s my calling.

In the meantime, here’s a 3-minute, tiny but mighty practice to help you tap into your innate well of knowledge: 

🌿Step outside and relax. Breathe in gently. With each breath, imagine your energy dropping into the earth like roots. Let your awareness rest on something alive—a tree, a blade of grass, the sky.
🌿Soften and take in the beauty of what you’re noticing. Then gently bring your attention to your heart. Ask quietly: “What would be helpful for me to know now?”
🌿Listen without grasping. Let whatever comes to you be enough. Even if it’s something simple, it could be astonishing.

The Science Behind Energy Healing

While the concept of energy healing may seem esoteric, science forms the foundation for most of these concepts. Combining the experiences, insights, and discoveries of scholars and leaders with scientific research makes these techniques incredibly powerful.

One key principle is the role of intention in shaping our reality. Research has shown that intention can have a profound impact on our physical and emotional well-being, influencing everything from our heart rate and blood pressure to our mood and cognitive function.

Another important concept is the idea of vibration and resonance. Everything in the universe is made up of energy, and each entity has its own unique vibrational frequency. When we practice energy healing, we're working with these frequencies to restore balance and harmony to the body and mind.

There are numerous connections between energy healing and science. Both support the findings of each other, and for a deeper understanding of energy healing, it’s critical to explore its scientific background.

Some key concepts to explore further include:

  • Biofield therapy: A form of energy healing that works with the biofield, or the energy field that surrounds and permeates the body.

  • Heart rate variability: A measure of the variation in time between heartbeats, which can be influenced by intention and energy healing.

  • Quantum entanglement: A phenomenon in which particles become connected and can affect each other even at a distance, which has implications for our understanding of energy and consciousness.

Physics has explored the metaphysical for years, and its findings and connections are incredibly fascinating.

The Benefits of Energy Healing

Energy healing offers a range of benefits for both physical and emotional well-being. Since you’re here, I’m assuming you already support the benefits. But energy doesn’t only support emotional and mental well-being; there are studies supporting the benefits that energy healing has on our physical and physiological processes.

Some of the most significant advantages include:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety: Energy healing can help calm the mind and body, reducing feelings of stress and anxiety. Many recipients have stated that they have experienced these benefits as long-lasting.

  • Increased well-being: By restoring balance and harmony to the energy field, energy healing can promote a sense of well-being and relaxation. Once your balance is restored, you are more likely to experience a butterfly effect on your well-being.

  • Enhanced intuition: Energy healing can help us tap into our intuition, allowing us to access deeper levels of wisdom and guidance.

  • Improved sleep: Regular energy healing practice can help regulate sleep patterns and improve the quality of rest. Energy healing can help you experience deeper and more sustained levels of relaxation, allowing your body to shut off fully. 

  • Increased sense of connection: Energy healing can help us feel more connected to ourselves, others, and the natural world. Humans are social beings, and one of our core needs is a sense of belonging. Energy healing can provide us with a supportive and like-minded community, as well as a deeper purpose.

There are many incredible benefits that people have received from energy healing. Grief support, mental illness help, and there are even some studies that suggest blood pressure .

Getting Started with Energy Healing

It’s never too early (or too late) to start receiving and giving energy healing. The easiest way to get started is to start with small things you can do yourself. From there, you can also sign up to learn how to administer energy healing.

If you're interested in exploring energy healing, here are some steps to get started:

  • Find a qualified practitioner or teacher: Look for someone who has experience and training in energy healing, and who resonates with your energy and intentions. It’s important to find someone whom you feel safe and comfortable with. Learning energy healing is about breaking through your conscious mind, and if you don’t feel comfortable with your practitioner, that won’t happen.

  • Create a supportive environment: Find a quiet, comfortable space where you can practice energy healing without distraction or interruption. You don’t have to have a whole room; some of my students have special places within their homes that they’ve set up. But creating a designated space is a great way to have somewhere you feel peaceful and grounded to practice.

  • Start with simple techniques: Begin with basic exercises and techniques, such as meditation or breathwork, and gradually build up to more advanced practices. I had one student who started with a simple water charging ritual and worked her way up to full moon rituals and becoming a Reiki practitioner. 

  • Be patient and consistent: Energy healing is a practice that takes time and commitment to develop. Be patient with yourself and others, and remember to celebrate small victories along the way.

  • Trust your intuition: Energy healing is a highly intuitive practice, and it's essential to trust your inner wisdom and guidance. The more you engage in energy healing, the more you’ll open and trust your intuition. The more you trust your intuition the deeper your practice will be.
